Why we gather

Every scholarship starts at a table like this one

Forty-one years ago the brethren of Real Fake Lodge passed a hat at a fish fry and sent one graduating senior to community college. That hat has not stopped moving. Tonight it takes the form of a gala — the same idea, better linens.

Who we fund

Graduating seniors from our four neighboring districts pursuing music, the visual and performing arts, or a skilled trade — students whose talent is obvious and whose funding is not.

How awards work

Applications open each January. A committee of lodge members and two local educators reads every one. Awards are paid directly to the school, and recipients are honored at our April stated meeting.

Where the money goes

The lodge underwrites the room, the food, and the printing, so one hundred percent of every ticket and gift goes to the fund. Sponsorships cover the rest of the evening.

The evening

Dinner, a string quartet, and one very competitive auction

Doors open at six for a reception and silent auction in the lodge hall. Dinner is served at seven, followed by a word from last year’s scholarship recipients — the part of the night that reliably ruins everyone’s mascara. The live auction and paddle raise follow, and the floor stays open for dancing until ten.

Black tie optional. Aprons welcome.

Two hundred seats. Twelve students.

Tables are released in the order reservations arrive, and the hall has held exactly two hundred since 1961. If you are coming, come early.
